The European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA together, have launched a solar orbiter from Cape Canaveral today. It will reach the Sun at the end of 2021 and is expected to study the north and south poles of our star for the first time. The only time a mission (NASA’s Ulysses probe) has studied the solar poles was in 1990. The difference this time is that the Solar Orbiter will have cameras on board, so we expect to see amazing images of the Sun.
NASA’s Parker Solar Probe is already orbiting the Sun.
