moon

This image of the Moon by John W. Draper, on March 23, 1840, from his rooftop observatory at New York University, is regarded as the very first image ever captured of a celestial object. It was captured using the daguerreotype technique (exposing highly polished sliver plated copper to a light source).
This stunning black and white false-color view of Saturn's moon Hyperion reveals crisp details across the strange, tumbling moon's surface. Differences in color could represent differences in the composition of surface materials. The view was obtained during Cassini's close flyby on Sept. 26, 2005. Meet Saturn’s Spongy Moon Hyperion

Meet Saturn's Spongy Moon Hyperion, discovered in 1848 by William Lassell. It is the largest of Saturn's irregular, nonspherical moons.

They say we know more about the Moon than about the deep sea. They’re wrong

They say we know more about the Moon than about the deep sea. They’re wrong, 23.5 percent of the ocean has been explore, 3 times the surface of the moon.

Our planet just just had its shortest day

Our planet just just had its shortest day. It was in June 2022 and was the shortest since accurate daily measurements using atomic clocks began in the 1960s.

NASA grew a plant in Lunar soil

NASA grew a plant in Lunar soil brought to Earth 50 years ago. This could both enable space exploration and benefit humanity.

Europa has signs of liquid water and is a prime candidate for life

Ice-penetrating radar data from Greenland suggests that shallow water pockets may be common within Europa’s ice shell, increasing the potential habitability of the Jovian moon’s ice shell.
